Food

We guide and accelerate food innovation to transform the food system. We focus on inclusive systems innovation, which enables all people and places to participate and benefit. Our 6 innovation focus areas are delivered with a combination of industry, education and research partners to improve environmental and health outcomes by developing solutions in the most promising food innovation areas. They include protein diversification, circular food systems, digital traceability, sustainable agriculture, sustainable aquaculture and targeted nutrition.

With KISMET, we change our ‘destiny’ and transform the current unfavourable food systems in cities and regions around the Baltic Sea to sustainability. The project tackles the challenge that local and regional authorities often lack capacity, require new impulses or need innovative solutions for realising more circular and sustainable food environments. Since this target group is key for different fields such as business promotion, health, procurement, food policy or environment, KISMET provides them with concrete instruments and tools for working better with 1. governance, 2. the demand-side and the 3. production side. These three components are part of the overall solution “Enabling Programme for sustainable food environments” which is developed by the 13 project partners.

Wasteless is an applied research project, which aims to measure and monitor food losses and waste in the EU. The WASTELESS project will develop and test a mix of innovative tools and methodologies for Food Loss and Waste (FLW) measurement and monitoring, will recommend a harmonised methodological Framework for FLW quantification, and will develop a decision support systemic Toolbox targeting all food value chain stakeholders. Additionally, WASTELESS will carry on research activities concerning innovative processes and streams to valorise unavoidable FLW.
